Neck Pain or Shoulder Pain after a restless nights sleep?
August 19, 2013Neck and Shoulder pain are all too common after a restless night sleep. Over the past 6 months, these types of patients have been more common symptoms of an underlying problem which can easily be prevented.
The aged old question: “Which came first the chicken or the egg?” Well in this case neither were the cause. Just a symptom of dysfunction caused by improper sleeping technique. When you sleep on your side, most people sleep directly on their shoulder, which compresses the shoulder girdle and the collar bone. This sleeping technique will also “jam” the down side shoulder girdle into the neck region, compressing rib cage and side bending the neck unless it is properly supported. A good pillow should fill the space between the head and the shoulder, keeping the spine level. Next blog with provide a solution to your sleeping wows and reduce stress to your neck and shoulders. This technique will give you a well deserved restful night. One gentleman responded after giving him the “sleep posture” position, ” I didn’t even get up for my normal bathroom routine, because I slept so soundly.”
